A very rich, but merciless farmer once lived in the hamlet of Campi al Lago (Klughammer). He owned large fertile fields of grain, horses and cattle, but he was also so stingy that he never paid his workers their just wages. One day Christ, in the form of an old little man, came to him and asked for something to eat or at least for some water.
The farmer showed him the door and said: “Beat it, I don’t feed you, and God himself has not given me enough water according to my needs!” The little man went away sadly and cried on the way. The tears turned into a stream that flooded the farmer’s fields and possessions and made him a poor man. Thus, Lake Caldaro was created. Still today, Campi al Lago can be found on the eastern shore of the lake.
