The municipality of Caldaro (Kaltern, in German) stretches between an altitude of 200 to 600 m a.s.l. The highest located locality is lovely Castelvecchio, which can be found 400 metres higher than San Giuseppe al Lago, the smallest locality. Sant'Antonio and Pozzo belong together, whereas Campi al Lago - although being located at the shores of Lake Caldaro - already belongs to the municipal area of Vadena. Caldaro village with its beautiful Assumption of Mary Parish Church, characterised by the 72.5 metres high Gothic steeple, however, represents the centre of Caldaro.
The 47.96 sq km large municipal area counts approx. 8,000 inhabitants. It is a wine-growing region par excellence, at the meeting point between Alpine and Mediterranean influences. Also the South Tyrolean Wine Museum and Vine Museum as well as several wineries and wine houses can be found here. The surroundings of Lake Caldaro invite to marvellous excursions, whereas the Mendola Funicular takes you up to Mt. Mendola, the local mountain of Caldaro.
