Pozzo, a tiny village, and the neighbouring locality of Sant’Antonio form one of the eight localities of Caldaro
Pozzo (Pfuss) is located at 533 m a.s.l. at the foot of the Oltradige slope of the Mendola Ridge, slightly above the centre of Caldaro. The so-called “Pfusser Lahn”, the brook which originates beneath the Passo della Mendola mountain pass, separates the locality from Sant’Antonio in the south, whereas towards north it borders the locality of San Nicolò.
Narrow winding alleys surround the local church dedicated to St. Roch (Rocco from Montpellier). It dates back to the 16th century, when the Black Death caused havoc in the Oltradige area. Such as the St. Anthony Church in the neighbouring Sant’Antonio, also this sacred building shows a big fresco of St. Christopher on its façade. Slightly above the church of Pozzo, hidden between the houses, rises one of the historical residences: Castel Mühlburg, called “Tower of Pozzo”.
Another old building is Castel Giovanelli, built in the place where a medieval residential tower stood once. The two buildings present themselves in the typical Oltradige construction style. Pozzo is surrounded by a mixed forest - beautiful hikes, e.g. along the Caldaro High Route, and cycle tours, such as the one on the historical Mendola Road, can be made from here.
