The charming main square (Piazza Principale), also known as Market Square, represents the heart of Caldaro village (Kaltern Dorf, in German): its centre consists of a beautiful Baroque fountain with the Marian Pillar and the Assumption of Mary Parish Church with its 72.5 metres high Gothic steeple, which can be seen from afar. From spring to late autumn there's always something to explore and to celebrate: events such as the farmer's market and the Caldaro Christmas Market, the two wine events "Caldaro all in Red" and "Caldaro all in White" take place at the main square.
From this square, a steep road leads up to the Friar's Hill (Colle dei Frati) and the Piazza dei Rottenburg square, which features a chargeable parking space. Its centre with the fountain is dominated by the statue of Heinrich of Rottenburg. The Rottenburgs owned numerous properties in the village - nowadays their old main residence houses the Franciscan Monastery with the Franciscan Church.
In Caldaro village you can also visit the South Tyrolean Wine Museum, the Wine Academy, two art galleries and the modern library. The walk through the village leads past the venerable residences built in the typical Oltradige construction style, which characterise the image of the village.
