This easy and pleasant hike on the edge of the Monticolo Forest leads to the Kreithof, a winery in the middle of Appiano’s vineyards

This hike is recommended for mild spring and autumn days and leads from the wine house of the Caldaro Winery towards the Calvary. The path no. 4 (Via Paul Troger road) reaches the Holy Cross Church passing eight chapels. It branches off 100 m before the church on the right and turns into a narrow path through the dense deciduous forest taking us on the rear side of the Calvary (Monte Calvario) down into the Alten-Loch hole.
Past the riding stable we enter the Val Lavason valley. The signposts "Monticolo" indicate the straight path to the Monticolo Forest, but we keep to the left and turn after 200 m into a forest path indicating "Kreithof". First on the trail no. 4A and then no. 23 we hike through the forest to the foot of the vineyard where the Kreithof Winery is located on its top.
Once reached our destination we can choose between two alternatives to turn back: by following the Stations of the Cross downhill and then the cycle track towards Caldaro, or by hiking through the Val Lavason valley beneath the cycle track (no. 22) back into the Alten-Loch hole.
