This nice walk through the forest at the foot of Mt. Roen leads from Termeno to Cortaccia
Image gallery: Kastelaz Path from Termeno to Cortaccia
Starting point of our walking tour is the romantic little St. James in Kastelaz Church in Termeno (Tramin). First we walk towards Castel Rechtenthal until the junction before the bridge and follow there the signpost "Kurtatsch Kastelazweg". We follow the road uphill through vineyards and orchards, then the forest starts and the path proceeds slightly uphill now.
In a beautiful panoramic position with view on the Bassa Atesina area we walk towards south. The last section of the path, shortly before we reach Cortaccia (Kurtatsch), proceeds again through the vineyards. After a visit to the village centre, we walk back to Termeno again, this time on the asphalt path through the vines which proceeds slightly lower parallel to the forest path.
We pass the small village of Ronchi (Rungg), a locality belonging to Termeno, and cross Termeno village until the Townhall Square, where we ascend again to the St. James in Kastelaz Church. Finally we take the opportunity to admire the wonderful frescoes inside the Romanesque monument. This hike is perfect for a spring or autumn day, not on hot summer days.
