This winter walk takes us from the Passo della Mendola mountain pass to the idyllic Rif. Oltradige al Roen mountain hut

On a beautiful Sunday morning in January we decide to do an easy and pleasant snowshoe tour. By car we drive to the Passo della Mendola mountain pass, more precisely to the parking space at the ski lift (1,365 m a.s.l.). Here we put on our snowshoes and walk up the toboggan run (no. 500) towards the Rif. Mezzavia mountain hut (Halbweghütte, in German).
After about an hour walk, we reach the Rif. Mezzavia mountain hut at 1,580 m a.s.l. We continue along the toboggan run (no. 500) and walk past a little chapel to the Malga di Romeno mountain hut (Romeno Alm, in German) where our walk branches off. Now we follow the trail no. 560.
About 20 minutes later, we reach our destination: the Rif. Oltradige al Roen mountain hut (Überetscher Hütte, in German), situated in a panoramic position at 1,761 m a.s.l. After a well-deserved break and the breathtaking view on the South Tyrolean Bassa Atesina area, we hike the same way back to the Passo della Mendola mountain pass, our starting point.
