The history of cinema in Caldaro (Kaltern) dates back to 1911 when the first 'cinematograph theatre' was opened there. This tradition is continued today by the Filmtreff Kaltern. Housed in the former station of the Überetsch Railway since 2011, it combines state-of-the-art technology with the building's historic charm. A special highlight in summer are the open-air film screenings.
Fancy seeing the latest blockbusters? Then the large cinemas in Bolzano (Bozen) are just the place for you. The Cineplexx in Bolzano on Schlachthofstraße and the UCI Cinemas in the Twenty shopping centre show the latest films of many genres in German, Italian or English. A charming alternative is the Filmclub Bozen on Dr.-Streiter-Gasse. Located in the heart of the old town, this arthouse cinema is dedicated to special works outside the mainstream and often has children's screenings on its weekend programme.
